Vial of the sunwell to drop in 2.4 Sunwell 5 Man?

12 02 2008

According to the information at WoWDB, Vial of the Sunwell is a new “healing” trinket that is ilvl 115, meaning that it will drop off normal bosses in heroic Magister’s Terrace (the new 5 man).

Is it an end-all healing trinket? I’m not sure, there are a few things that I’d like to know before I can make conclusions, like a cooldown on the use effect, hidden cooldown on the equip effects, etc. “Collects 100 energy” may well mean reducing each of your heals by 100. Who knows.

Anyhow, if it’s like every other trinket out there, using this trinket won’t invoke GCD which will make for a very potent instant heal without invoking GCD every 1-2 minutes (depending on how much you spam), and since we have 0 mana Rank 1 healing wave, we can almost be guaranteed a 2k heal every minute.

If there’s no CD, I can see using this everytime we get around 10ish charges, which means for one very OPed trinket.

Of course, we’ll have to put this trinket into actual use to determine it’s true usefulness, but a guaranteed 15 mp5 can’t go wrong.

Patch 2.4 Shaman (Proposed) Changes

11 02 2008

Well, the patch notes for 2.4 test is up and we can now see the shaman changes in store. For the resto shaman, there are only three related changes.

  • Earth Shield: Mana cost reduced roughly in half, and charges reduced from 10 to 6.
  • Healing Grace: This talent now reduces the chance your spells will be dispelled by 10/20/30%.The resistance to being dispelled modifier from this talent now applies correctly to Water Breathing.
  • Totem timer icons will now show up under your player portrait when you cast totem spells. Right-clicking a totem timer icon will destroy that totem.

The Earthshield change is two sided: while it will always be more mana efficient than the current version, it will waste more global cooldowns more often, and whether or not the coefficient for each tick will be modified. Ofcourse, it’ll be worthwhile to switch between possible damage targets to shield making it a much much more versatile spell than the current incarnation.

The healing grace is a good addition to any PvP spec, although a 30% chance really is just “better than none” given the reduction in Earthshield costs, hopefully shamans can do better as PvP healers now (not that I PvP). As for PvE, the last boss fight that dispelled anything off you was… Garr.

They’re finally introducing a totem UI. Who isn’t already using another sophisticated totem UI that has 2000x better functionality than the one they’re proposing? Better than nothing, I guess.

The new trinkets (spell dps, melee dps, and tank) from the Sunwell 5-mans look really good. So where’s our healing trinket? The only healing weapon in the sunwell 5-man is… a staff. I guess we should be grateful that the instance actually drops quality epics over… crap.

The new healing amulets are very powerful, including the exalted sunwell offensive one. Now if someone can tell me what the scryer/aldor exalted effect does, we can see if it’s worth the grind. Of course, this is the best chance for Blizzard to screw us over a reputation choice by retrofitting stuff like this. GG dudes.

Vashj writeup is still delayed till I have the mood to write up. Keep pressing F5 at your WoW news site of choice for the time being.
